WHAT ?
Touch Textures
FULU can create tactile experience of textures from 2D images, adding 3D depth to current 2D screens. You can feel the touch of textures like a breeze between leaves, or a holiday beach.
Send and Receive Touch
With FULU, you can send and receive touch remotely. You can “touch call” with a long-distance partner or family members, even between Tokyo and London.

How it works?

Augmented Touch
FULU creates a virtual feeling of touch on the top side of the nail, whilst your soft finger pad is free to touch physical objects. In other words, FULU creates ‘Augmented Touch’, allowing users to experience virtual and physical touch seamlessly and simultaneously.
WHY?
Currently, digital experiences are focused on the audio-visual whilst other human senses are neglected. Of these other sensory systems, touch is important for creating trust and empathy, such as when babies first create a connection with their mother by a simple touch. Psychologists have proven that people can communicate six emotions via touch alone
— anger, fear, disgust, love, gratitude and sympathy.

ABOUT the Creator
FULU is currently on prototyping stage and aiming for production in 2026.
FULU is first designed and developed by RYO TADA in 2019.
RYO is an ex-McKinsey consultant and a graduate in Innovation Design Engineering at the Royal College of Art (MA) and Imperial College London (MSc).
She is a design engineer born in Tokyo and based in New York, London and Tokyo.
